Some Applications You Can Use With iSight

EDIT Nov 2024. I have relinked the EZ Jim pages at the new location where I have updated the links. As iChat is no more and the AIM servers closed in 2017 most of the Links below have also disappeared.
Use the Way Back Machine Stick the URL in the search box and hit return, then pick a year, then a date and click on the dot and then select a grab. Can take some time at this point. I have not changed the links below. One or two work as they stand even if the software is for older Macs.
Apple Apps
iChat AV that can text, audio, Video chat to other AIM and Jabber clients on other platforms as well as to Macs, and
snapshots ( iChat > Video > Take Snapshot )
iMovie movie clips (must be iMovie4 or later)
(iMovie6 or later for internal iSight: Using iSight with iMovie)
QuickTime Streaming Server serves video and audio streams of live or pre-recorded content in real time via the internet.
QuickTime Broadcaster is Apple's live encoding software
for online delivery. (can capture video: see second part of this article)
QuickTime 7 Pro record movie clips.
Safari for audio-video chat sites like iVideochat
Photo Booth Photo Arcade (Scroll Down in left column)
FAQ says only available with the MacBook Pro, iMac G5 (iSight) or iMac (Early 2006) computer.

Alternatives to iChat but Video chatting capable apps
iVisit A Mac and PC alternative. (does not use AIM or MSN or Jabber)
Yak For Free Like Skype and iVisit is a Cross Platform Video, Audio and IM application. They beat Skype to a Mac version.
Skype Cross Platform IP telephony and Chat client. Now has a Mac version for Video chat.
Edit 2024:- Now owned by Microsoft since 2012-13 (when they closed MSN messenger)
Other video capable apps can be found in Apple's Email & Chat and Video lists.
Add-Ons for iChat
These common add-ons for iChat AV:
* iChatUSBCam allows iSight with slower Macs,
* PowerBoost allows multi-party video on slower Macs,
* iGlasses allows iSight image adjustment, and
* Conference Recorder records iChat AV chats.
* Live Icon Moving Buddy icon add on. It lives !! Was written by Ecamm but found on VersionTracker only. (Thanks Defcom !!) The VersionTraker page does say it is iChat 2.x Only !!
* iChat Streaming Icon Another moving icon Utility. Seems to be OK in iChat 3.x
* iChatter More from Ecamm.com Speaks iChat Text chats.
* Chax An add-on that adds asked for features to IChat.
iProfile ( Not suitable for iChat 3.) Adds ability to add an Profile to the AIM servers for iChat 2.x
iCAR ( Definitly Not suitable for iChat 3.) Adds Away Meesages to iChat 2.x when Offline.
Now Playing in iChat ( Not needed for iChat 3 as feature included.) Adds iTunes data as a Status Message.
iChat Streaming Icon Adds the Ability to send and recive moving Buddy iCons.
iChat Status A Preference Pane that controls some AppleScripts that add Status Messages in iChat 2.x ( Not suitable for iChat 3.)
Showmacster So many features you have to see the site. Essentially sending anything as the video feed such as icons, vidoe clips and the desktop. Also Pics can be sent as Slideshows.
ChatFX Does what is says. Adds Photobooth type and more features to your live video or Showmacster's feed.
Logarrhea More of a standalone that can examine your saved Chats.
Edit 2014:- Written in Universal Binary for Power PCs and Intels. Does not work on my M3

Other Tweaks for iChat
Jabber in Tiger
Jabber was added to iChat at iChat 3 when Tiger (10.4.x) came out. It does not have any set up features so you need to register a Jabber screen name and then use this in iChat. The first link tells you how. The second tells you how to extend this with "Transports" to other services. The third is needed for you to check on the Public Jabber servers available to pickone for your needs with link 1 and 2.
