Ipod touch not showing up in itunes

Brand new ipod touch does not show up in itunes.

Restarted computer.

Tried different USB ports.

Uninstalled and re-installed itunes.

Computer sees it but itunes does not.

Iphone shows up.

What gives?

Itunes 12.8.3

Mac Pro 2008

El Capitan 10.11.6

6th generation Ipod touch specs (from apple's website)

Syncing with iTunes on a Mac or PC requires:

  • Mac: OS X 10.11.4 or later
  • PC: Windows 7 or later
  • iTunes 12.8.2 or later on Mac and iTunes 12.9.5 or later on PC

Thanks in advance.

You have suitable builds of iTunes and OS X. In Finder use the menu item Go > Go to Folder..., copy the following text, paste it into the dialog box and press enter:

/System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/MobileDevice.framework/Versions/Current/Resources

Unlock your device and connect it to USB. Double click on MobileDeviceUpdater in the folder that has opened. It should notify you of a software update. Install it and iTunes should hopefully recognize your device.
