I am getting spam text messages. When I try to block them, there is no "block" option listed.
Here is what I am doing: If you're in Messages, open the conversation, tap the contact at the top of the conversation, then tap info icon. Tap the name or phone number, scroll to the bottom of the Info screen, then tap Block this Caller.
Unfortunately, when I scroll to the bottom of the info screen, there is NO option available to BLOCK this tester. :(
By the way, is "HIDE" the same as the "BLOCK" option?
When you tap on the "i", you can see a new page, where you need to tap on ">" symbol at right. Then you should see the "Block this Caller" option.

Sorry, I forgot to answer to your latest question.
No, Hide Alerts option doesn't Block that sender. Simply you won't get any notification from that sender's messages.
