Update erased my photos

Why 12.4.4 update for my iphone6 erased all my photos??

I want to download them back to my phone

If you were using iCloud Photos syncing them to iCloud, they should be in iCloud, available, as soon as you access iCloud. Check if you have them in iCloud, opening iCloud.com with a browser.

Shouldn't be this case, they could have been lost during the update procedure, and you can retrieve them from a backup that should be made before the update. No backup = no recovery, sorry.
