I need to turn the activation lock off my dad's ipad - my mom wants to use it now and reset it and we don't know what my dad's apple id/password was. He passed away so what can we do?

take the device, the original purchase receipt with the serial number, and a photo ID to the nearest Apple Store. Also take a copy of the death certificate and a copy of the will or a document that shows you inherited it.
