This Apple ID is not active.

I recently made a new account, and a few days later I tried logging in and had this message ‘ This Apple ID is not active.’

any ideas why this has happened and how to fix it?

Does what you describe happen over or over or did it happen just one time. And, is it correct that you did not sign in here with the problem Apple ID? Are you talking about using a computer or an iDevice?

If you didn't deactivate the ID, contact Apple ID Support.
