Accessing iCloud file from iPad overwrote version on MacBook

Hi all,

For the past few weeks I have been keeping a log of data from my workouts in an excel file. Normally I use my MacBook Pro to do this. I save the file at the end of each workout and then it is synced to my iCloud Drive.

Today I opened the file on my iPad from iCloud drive. When the excel file opened, it opened to the first day I started collecting data (which was 3 weeks ago). I immediately ran upstairs to my laptop, and opened the file and it was overwritten on my laptop as well (iCloud drive automatically updates files on my computer). I saw my iPad has the autosave feature enabled for the excel app, so I assume my iPad opened an older version and saved it, which overwrote the version in iCloud Drive.

Is there any way to recover this file? I don’t understand why I wasn’t asked to deal with the file conflict and why my iCloud file was immediately overwritten.

iPad Pro, iPadOS 13

Odd that it was overwritten if iCloud was enabled on both devices as any updates to the file would've been updated in realtime across all devices. Also odd that you cannot revert to a previous option but then I don't use Excel (I use Numbers instead and see the option to revert to a previous version).
