When I try to upload files from photos to Facebook my password (which I know to be correct) is rejected. If I simply save the same photos to my desktop, they upload no problem. Can anyone shed some light on this please?

Try uploading from the Facebook end with your browser. Look of the Media section in the sidebar of the browser selection window and go from there to your Photos library. I create a folder titled "•••• Upload to Facebook" to make it easier to find in the browser:
