Disk Image Won't Open

Hello all -

I have a mid-2011 iMac with a 500G disk and 16G memory running High Sierra 10.03.6.

I have generated several encrypted disk images and they all work, except one. When I open a good one, I type in its password and its disk icon appears in the sidebar. When I click on that icon in the sidebar the image opens and shows its contents. But, when I try to open the one bad guy, I type in the password and its disk icon appears in the sidebar. So far so good. BUT, when I click on the image in the sidebar to open it, I get this message:

The folder "WindowsMedia-1" can't be

opened because you don't have permission

to see its contents.

Notice that the message refers to the disk as a "folder." I checked and double checked all the permissions leading up to and including it and they all say I have permission to read & write. (A couple of the good guys are contained in the same folder as the bad guy.) I had successfully opened it many times before it suddenly started doing this. Any ideas what's going on? Could I have done something wrong when I closed it? Anything I can do?

Thanks in advance for any thoughts -

Hello again BDAqua -

Thanks for your response. In answer to your question, WindowsMedia-1 is the name of both the finder's dmg and the sidebar's resulting disk. But you're not going to believe this latest update. (Try to follow along.) There are four users on this computer. I am both User-1 and User-2. The dmg was created by User-1, was its owner, and was the user who could access the disk from the sidebar but suddenly could not.

I participate in this forum as User-2. Just to be curious, just now as I'm writing this I (U-2) opened U-1's dmg, got its sidebar disk, and was able to open the disk!! All while I was U-2. So I checked the the sidebar disk's permissions and saw that U-2 was there, but U-1 was not. (Even tho U-1 had permission for the dmg, he did not for the disk so could not see its permissions.) So I added U-1 to the disk's permissions and now everything works fine. I guess I had screwed up the disk's permissions somehow. (Could you follow all that?)

Thanks again for your response. If I hadn't been sitting here responding to it, I probably never would have tried to open the dmg as User-2.
