Help me put cash in my Apple Pay wallet without a credit card.

I just got an iPhone. ( I have been an android customer for years now.) For the first time ever, I entered the information of my debit card into a phone as requested by the iCloud account I set up. In the past, I have always hesitated to do this. Well, I was hacked. I had nearly $1000 removed from this bank account. Ok, so now I want to just add money to apple cash to my wallet so that I can keep paying for more storage on my iCloud account in this way. I do not however want to leave a credit/debit card on file ever again. Now, I can't say for sure this happened because of me giving this debit card this information for the first time on a phone, but then again, this has never happened to me before and I do not use my debit card typically for anything else. Can anyone out there advise me?
