I am transferring and downloading my items from my old computer to my Mac. However, when I am transferring it is downloading into my iCloud and not my computer. Is there any way to download my documents/items and not to my iCloud?

Do you have the iCloud Drive enabled along with the Desktop and Documents folder options? That's what it sounds like. You can check in the System/iCloud/iCloud Drive/Options preference pane.
