iPhone 12 OLED Screen Issue

Hello. I bought two iPhone 12 and both has the same issue. In dark surrounding on any brightness lower than 90-100% screen has this ugly glowing! Black pixels are not turning off in dynamic scenes. In static scene black pixels turning off after few seconds.

My video shows it in video and in clock app.

And this is comparison by another one person who have this problem but with iPhone 12 Pro. iPhone 12 Pro vs iPhone XS screen.

That’s not normal at all. I post it to support and they said I should wait more. That’s just great...

SO after getting two brand new iphone 12 pro max, after ordering Like 9 models , i can confirm all fot this weird LCD like screen in pitch black room on a blakc wallappaer in full screen in photos apps ( to reproduce the issue easily ) or even by jut booting each phones out of the box in my bathroom with no lights on , ( you see this grey flicker...

I got 2 12 pro max today starting with F2 week 51 of production, like most of the ones i got , it's way better than the last one i got starting with G0... the issue is still present but barely visible specialy on one model + no yellow tint...

So i send pics to apple, and they confirmed to me THAT THEY DO NOT READ THESE FORUMS... AT ALL...

if u cant this minor issue ( in their opinion and i agree ) to be fixed , you need to call them and spend 30 min or 1 hour max with tech support and explain them all of this.. issue is software cos it never happen with brigthness at 100% and when the phone boot at first, the screen is perfect , you see the apple logo and then the grey flicker comes for a few seconds, it means that so cores components that initialize when booting up like all the sensor in the notch must be causing a little software bug that most ppl do not see.

they do have enough reports of this specific issue.. if all the people here were to call them maybe they'll will really look into the issue.. i've send pictures to them, spent some time with them, and it's the only solution for a fix to be coming ASAP.

hope most of you will calll them . otherwise they may fix it when 13 is released..

I can 100% confirm not all of the models are affected. I took mine to the nearest Apple Store yesterday and they didn't even know Apple is working on a software fix, they serviced my phone, acknowledged the issue affecting my screen and said I can get a replacement working unit in a few days. I also tested all the demo units and they were working just fine, no flickering or green tint at all.

1) I tested my friend's in the exact same pitch black room with not a single light on (doors shut and closed blinds): the difference was massive: pure blacks vs. the same old green tint/glow on mine. The video we chose was called "12 hours of black screen" on YouTube.

2) I know that covering the screen with my arm was not enough at all because I'm a picky user and I notice the smallest glitch affecting my iPhones.

With that being said, I can confirm that the weird flickering was visible even in that context, definitely more subtle but still there.

I'd still suggest you give it a try and ask for a replacement as I don't trust what Apple says. I don't regret my decision at all.

I'll be able to tell you how it goes by the end of next week.

Sure.

Production Week, 40th (october), Imei - 3530. The Screen was the best of the three. it was gorgeously Blue/cool. Further it was sharp, texts looked amazingly crisp. I used to read alot on phone.

But unfortunately, had to send back due to blinking issue. Apple India’s executive here told me that it is an hardware issue which they are aware of. And all the models are presently of october month import stock. Hence, he suggested refund & wait for new units. He genuinely helped & told me to get a refund.

Ok, guys.

I’m back home from the apple store. I unboxed the new 12 pro max, currently migrating my data, but I tried some backlight bleed test videos (which are pure black and what I have been using to test my faulty iphone as well)

And it’s good news, there seems to be no issue! It was quite frustrating these past couple of weeks but I finally have a perfectly working OLED panel that doesn’t have any green tint or flickering issues.

And with this, I am certain that this is a hardware related issue. As I wrote here before, my friend also has a perfectly good iphone 12. He bought it in Turkey, and his serial no starts with FF.

If it was solely a software issue, there wouldn’t be any normal devices.

Now, that being said, I am not saying Apple cannot solve it by software, but just because they can work around this issue by a software fix, it doesn’t necessarily mean it is not caused by faulty hardware.

Anyway, here are the things that might be useful for checking yours against mine;

Model: iPhone 12 Pro Max

Factory: F2 (China, Zhengzhou - Foxxconn)

Production week: 50(December)

Imei starts with 3501

I hope everyone eventually gets their issues resolved.

Cheers!

The yellow tint is not a big deal can be fixed with color filter

the reason is appears yellow as this is the way to be able to output correct colors while being an Oled

Our problems are

MAIN- grey/green glow of blacks

2ND- green tinted colors at low brightness for some users

I could get my hand on another 12 Pro Max (just testing of my friends') there is no grey glow whatsoever and no flashing blacks on any of the video tests (G9Q panel with perfect grey uniformity I found out it is better than both G9N and G9P)

but when set to 0-8% brightness the grey color appears a little bit greenish(that is because the panel should not go that low on brightness and should be tweaked to display less green)

Conclusion:

-There are phones without the issue for sure I personally think it is less evident in the Pro Max series for two reasons

1-Only Samsung supply the panels.

2-The display is big so Apple gives more care for its quality control as defects will appears much easier.

-This can definitely be fixed with software specially the green tint problem is as I said it requires Apple to identify it as a serious issue and will most likely take time to test and isolate the affected units(this can be fixed by giving users manual controls!!! but sadly that is not how Apple do things)

-Lastly I agree it is an issue I just want you people not to make it bigger than more what it is(yes 1000$ and an issue etc,)but still it is a phone it should not control how happy or how sad you are.

Have a good day!! <3

There will be no updates. Apple decided to let it slide. 2 months ago at least they tried to listen about this issue. Now Apple just pretend they don’t know anything about this issue. If you show it to them — they say they don’t see anything. This forum and 65 pages are not a proof for them. This is not a software issue as some people really have good displays. It’s a hardware issue and they just can’t do anything except to replace each defective oled panel with a good one.

I’ve watched a movie last night — and it was blinking like ****, from green black to proper black colors every second. My room was lit by the way, and we just decided to watch other movie on tv instead as it’s uncomfortable to watch at this state any videos except HDR ones.

That’s the latest news guys.

Got my Week 49 12 Pro replaced today.

By Week 44, G6 factory model.

There are still some issues in total dark, but much less of them.

No green tint on low brightness whatsoever.

There are some occasional raised blacks when changing phone's orientation and line on the bottom appears, and when starting a video, but blacks are turned off during a playback.

I don't want to go through another replacement, I can live with that minor thing either this is software or hardware related issue. But the hardware aspect, which is partial green tint, is gone for good for now.

P.S. Overall panel's color temperature is neutral white, without shift to yellow.

Hello all!

Here is an update and comparison between iPhone 12 Pro Max and iPhone 12 Pro:

iPhone 12 Pro with SN DNP... (week 47) and iPhone 12 Pro Max with SN G6T... (week 51).

You see that the iPhone 12 Pro Max is very good according to the color-accuracy and the black (not perfect black until 30% brightness, but 99% black. It's hard to see it without knowing it). Also the iPhone 12 Pro Max has no flickering in videos!

So my conclusion is that the flickering and the clearly visible raised black from my iPhone 12 Pro is definitely an hardware-issue!

Guys, we should just stop messing with our brains pointlessly: it’s not hardware-related, production week and serial number have NOTHING TO DO with raised blacks/ flickering and green tint.

It’s absolutely software-related.

All we can do is submit feedback to Apple. The more we are the sooner they will address and (hopefully) solve this issue. I found a forum online where people last year in August complained for the 11 Pro having green tint issues. Problem solved with an update.

Don’t waste your precious time returning phones or asking for replacements.

I spoke too soon. Mine got significantly worse overnight. By this morning, the whole top of the screen was green when reducing the brightness to 0% (with or without True Tone, white point reduction off, auto brightness off). I just returned the phone to apple and the employee at the store said they are well aware of the issue which should be resolved with a software update. Until then I will stick with my SE
