Why does the watch occasionally show a red exclamation mark? What is going wrong with the watch?

Is this a major malfunction ?

If your Apple Watch displays  after a software update, try these steps:

  1. Press and hold both the side button and Digital Crown for at least 10 seconds.
  2. When you see the Apple logo, release both buttons.
  3. If you still need help, contact Apple Support to set up a mail-in repair.
