How come l can’t save photos from messenger to go into my album

Are you referring to Facebook Messenger or the Messages App on iPhone?
If FB Messenger, go to Settings > Privacy > Photos. Do you see Messenger or Facebook listed? Make sure Facebook and Messenger is toggled on.
