MS Word Live Count

Like many using MS Word, I lament that lack of a live/running word count. As a writer, I would like to know where I am in terms of word count while writing. Word used to offer that feature but, for some reason — and despite an outcry from thousands of users — they've not reinstated it. Somehow I stumbled upon a key combination that, when pressed, highlights all the text from the point I am at, back to the beginning, giving me my count in the area at the bottom of the page — it does exactly what I need. However, the key combination (Shift +Function + Command + Left Arrow) is clunky to use. Is there any way to assign that key combination to a different, simpler one?

Bob: Thanks for the info, but that not what I need. The complicated keystone I mentioned highlights all text from where I am typing back to the beginning (oftentimes there will be a ton of text after the point I am currently at) and gives me the count — pretty much the same as what you are describing. But using my method, I don't have to highlight the text all the way back to the start, it does it for me and shows the count below. Then, a simple right arrow brings be back the point I was at — very slick. I am looking for a way to simplify the (Shift +Function + Command + Left Arrow) action.
