iCloud backup from time machine

Instead of an external hard drive can my iCloud account serve as my Time Machine backup? I am especially interested in it for emails and documents

No. Time Machine can only use physical drives.

Thank you for your assistance. I use a number of Apple products to backup. At one time I used an Apple Time Capsule. No longer working. Anything you’d recommend that is like that? My recollection is that it was wireless.
