My new macbook pro (m1) and airplay struggles in Apple Music

My new macbook pro (m1 chip) really struggles to "cast" music (using airplay within Apple Music) to wireless speakers/streamers; it starts, stops, etc. Internet is strong. Casting from iOs (phone, ipad) is no problem, at all, no errors. The laptop can play music (downloaded or streaming) to the computer's speaker without glitchess, and works some of the time when casting to speakers but stops without warning. Could be that update to Big Sur made it worse?
