apple id password not working

My iphone was originally set up with someone else's apple ID.

I created a new apple ID and password for myself. Which doesn't work.

I'm not very tech savvy and I really need help on this one as I don't know what to do.

Should I create another apple ID and try again?

Can you get the person whose ID was used to set up the phone to do the steps in the article below to make it 'your' phone?


Selling/Giving Away Device.      


Did you sign out of the original person's Apple ID before you tried to sign in with your ID?


What happened when you tried to sign in with your ID? Error message(s)?


Creating a new Apple ID shouldn't help. I suggest you work on the ID you have now.

You are welcome. Check the App Store and iTunes Store to see if there are any updates for apps/purchases. A request for another Apple ID password is often caused by updates to apps/purchases that were made when using the other ID. Those purchases are tied to the other ID and can't be transferred. One option is to delete the apps/purchases made by the other ID and download them using the new ID if desired. After deleting the apps, it may be necessary to restart the device/computer before you can download the apps again. If necessary, check your purchases history to see which apps/purchases weren’t made by the current ID.

Thanks for your reply. I have signed out. And I am able to sign myself in with my ID, no error messages.

However I can't use my ID and password to update or purchase apps.

An error message saying that verification has failed and that either the ID or password is incorrect, which it isn't.

And at random times the other person's email address/ID comes up and not mine, just weird. I can't see anywhere that the other person's ID is available to sign out from since it is my ID that shows as logged in.
