iphone not showing up in music or finder ... not listed in Locations... macOS Catalina 10.15.7

have tried restarting iphone and Mac

changing USB ports

etc etc etc...

not listed in locations so no where to select and "trust this device"

tried different lighnting / usb cables

tried different devices such as ipad works fine...?

ipad stays connected to mac even remotely and is shown in locations

iphone will not appear either in finder or music

How do I get Mac to recognize Iphone?
