Create a Time Machine Backup:

Once Received...

2. Transfer it All in Via Migration Assistant: Move your Content to a new Mac - Apple Support

So, Back this New Mac Up!

Most certainly always have a backup drive. If you don't have or use one, then you may just be stuck if and when a failure occurs.

You MUST proceed to set up your backup drive and make backups on a regular schedule or ask Time Machine to "take care of it".

Drives fail. And the drive in your new computer is soldered to the mainboard, so any mainboard failure takes out the drive as well.
