Changing an AppleID is easy to do but sometimes brings unintended consequences.

However, it’s very easy to create up to three iCloud aliases which deliver mail to your current iCloud inbox.

You can edit iCloud email aliases for mail delivery purposes but your Apple ID cannot be changed to one of those.

Edit to add: If you change your current AppleID / iCloud email address to “something else” …

… your current /old address will likely become unavailable forever more.
