Music will not play through USB on Iphone 13 pro updated to 15.1.1

I have a 2014 Chevy Equinox LS that will not allow Bluetooth for Music streaming and only will use USB. When I connect my iPhone which is on iOS 15.1.1 to the USB port it shows as charging but does not recognize the phone itself. I have a 2018 iPad Pro that I has not been allowed to update and it is on iOS 15.0.2 that works fine when plugged in through the USB and is recognized immediately and plays. This car is not a Carplay device as GMs prior to 2014 did not have Carplay enabled radios. What do you guys recommend? I would be interested to see if I could downgrade back to 15.0.2 if the phone works with the USB. I have tried several different lightning cables with the iPhone and all do the same thing. The device is not recognized by the car in this version of the iOS!

First of all apologies nobody reacted yo your post for 4 days but I guess none of us have that combination of phone and car.

The standard response is talk to your dealer for an update to your Chevvy audio. I am not confident of that happening in a 7 year old vehicle.

I am surprised that 15.0.2 works but 15.1 doesn't.

You can't go back to 15.0.2 by any means that we can recommend here.

First remove all security and VPN apps and test again.

You could then try a backup and restore.

Backup and restore (using the computer method preferably)

(1)How to back up your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch – Apple Support

Unlock SIM PIN if locked.

(2) Restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod to factory settings – Apple Support

Set up as new without restoring the backup and test the audio connection.

(3) Restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch from a backup

If it works after (2) but not after(3) it is a bad app or setting

Unfortunately that does not work as I have already tried that and there are several other places complaining of this exact same thing since the 15.1.1 update. It has to be the update on this directly as my phone also worked prior to receiving the update. Others have advised it works with Bluetooth but not with USB so it's going to be the update here that caused the issue.

There has to be a point where peripherals no longer support an update.

If anyone at GM is responsible for beta testing iOS against their products then GM are responsible and should have warned customers not to update.

But that is not GM in my experience, I used to work for them. My 2015 Vauxhall very soon dropped off the perch regarding connectivity,

I would not hold my breath for a fix for a handful of Chevvys when they have a billion users.

I'm having the same issue with my 2016 Chevy, this is annoying since i've used my phone this way in my car daily for the last couple of years.

I completely disagree with the statement above that "There has to be a point where peripherals no longer support an update." A minor version update, from 15.0.2 to 15.1.1, of iOS should be backward compatible. If they are dropping support for a specific USB protocol that should be stated in the release notes, there's nothing like that in the release notes. In my opinion this is clearly a bug in the iOS code, I would hope someone from apple monitor these threads or perhaps theres another place on this site to report bugs. I guess we can only hope they fix the issue in the next iOS update.
