Time machine for Monterey

I want to upgrade from Big Sur 11.6 to Monterey on my Macbook Pro 2018. But I heard that the external disk on which Time Machine saved all my docs & Apps must be on APFS ? right now all the info is on a disk formatted MacOS extended Journaled.

1) Do I have to copy my present TimeMachine disk on a new APFS formatted disk?

2) or will the Monterey system be able to copy all my info from the existing saved Time Machine disk?

Thank you for your help

Basically you don't have to do anything. I still have a working HFS+ Time Machine drive attached to my iMac Pro. You just need to plug it in and select it as your Time Machine drive.
