How do I set up a voicemail for my iPhone?

When I tried to set up my voicemail, it asked for a voicemail password I had to set myself. I set the password and then it asked to re-enter it, I did so but it said there was an error. I tried multiple times entering the password carefully each time but it would give me the same response, what should I do?
