iPhone enables WiFi connectivity by itself

When I leave my home, I usually disable the wifi connections by greying out the wifi button through the control center. Everytime I arrive to a store or restaurant that has wifi, the iPhone turns the wifi button on by itself and it messes up whatever I was doing. Is there a way to stop this from happening without having to completely turn off wifi?

Your iPhone is performing exactly as designed when you turn OFF Wi-Fi from the Control Center. Yes there is a way to turn OFF Wi-Fi completely until you turn it back ON from the Control Center or by going into settings.

Open Settings ➡️ Wi-Fi ➡️ OFF
