It might be something that can be worked on. Sometimes the button gets misaligned and it doesn't seem to work, but isn't a permanent condition. Or it could be something a little bit more serious such as a misaligned or damaged connector. There's a big ribbon connector inside that connects all the buttons and Lightning port to the battery and the logic board. If it was jarred loose it could possibly be put back in place. Not sure if Apple can replace one though.


What do you need from it? Do you have data that you absolutely need, such as photos? If the buttons are permanently damaged, Apple's fix would be to replace it with a service replacement for price and an exchange of your damaged device. If you have data on it, you won't get it back as Apple considers it the user's responsibility to back up.
