Thanks BobTheFisherman. If they answered, I wouldn't need the read receipt.... when you are pitching an art portfolio to a busy Art Director, they just don't answer. All I want to know is if they have received it as opposed to the email ending up in Spam. Thanks anyway!
The disposition notification as linked by Illaass will only tell you that the email server forwarded the message to the recipient. It will not tell you if the recipient looked at it, read it, or deleted it. So, all it will tell you is what you can always assume, that the message was delivered. Additionally, that minimally useful tidbit will only happen if the email server decides to respond to your request.
Think of how useful this would be to spammers. They would find out whether a specific email address is valid or not and whether you received their spam. They could then sell your confirmed email address to many more spammers.
Ask the recipient to notify you when they receive/read your email.
