Why is my junk mail folder always empty in iOS ( both on my iPhone and iPad ) but when I log into Outlook on windows there are messages?

When I log into email on my iPhone or iPad using the app the junk mail folder is always empty, yet when I log into Outlook from windows there are items there? I am missing important emails which have been filtered to junk by mistake before I even see them, but cannot view them in iOS? Please help
