Connecting iMac and Macbook Air for dual monitors?
What cables etc. would I need to connect an iMac (24 in., M1, 2021) with a Macbook Air (M1, 2020) to have both as monitors? Thanks for your help!
MacBook Air (2020 or later)

Using a cabled connection in Target Display Mode, is no longer supported by new Mac's.
see > Use your iMac as a display with target display mode - Apple Support
If you want or need a larger display for your MacBook Air, then you will need to buy an aftermarket display.
There are also network based options like Screen Sharing, AirPlay and the pricy Luna Display, but they are not the same as having a connected external display.

Thank you for the quick reply! I was afraid this was the case. External monitor it is!
+1, No can do. If you need an external monitor please buy one. Please remember Macs are computers they are not external displays for other devices including other Macs.
If both computers are using Monterey, you may have the option of using Airplay to Mac without cabling
