Select the table containing the data…

Then click the Pivot Table icon in the tool bar.

Clicking the table and then the Pivot Table icon in the Toolbar always places the Pivot Table in a separate sheet from the table with the data.

I prefer having the Pivot Table in the same sheet as the table with the data. That makes it easier to see the effects of changes in the data. Change the data and then "refresh" the Pivot Table.

To do that click in the table with the data and in the menu choose Organize > Create Pivot Table > On Current Sheet.
