So this was finally resolved with a phone call from Apple Support. My husband had his iMessage on but his number was not ticked in the send and receive segment. Once ticked it was all done.
So this was finally resolved with a phone call from Apple Support. My husband had his iMessage on but his number was not ticked in the send and receive segment. Once ticked it was all done.
So texts are still sending, but they are green correct? There are a few different reasons for sending green messages: the other person doesn't have an iPhone, iMessage is off on either your or your husband's phone, or sometimes iMessage is temporarily unavailable.
Check your settings and your husband's settings to make sure iMessage is enabled on both phones by going to Settings >> Messages >> then make sure "iMessage" is on.

Hi Owen - didn't work. Deleted the contact - no need for the screenshot, it is my husband's number, and I have to use it a hundred times a day - and then set him up again as a new contact, but it still went as a green ordinary text message.

I would try taking a screenshot of the contact information (so you still have their number and other contact methods), then delete the contact that is not working. Set up a new contact and use the screenshot to reference the information to add.
