Apple TV 4K Chroma - BUG / Bad implementation

I'm having an issue with Apple TV 4K and my AVR where the challenge is that my AVR does not support 4:2:2 10-bit and Apple TV keeps switching to 4:2:2 10-bit even though the content is in 4:2:0. If I select Chroma 4:2:0 it switches to 4:2:2 when I enable match content or uses 4K SDR as default, so the only way is to enable HDR as default and turn off content matching. Which is not ideal.

The scenario is a poorly implementation and speaking to Apple Support does not help at all as they can't understand why I want to have SDR as default and have content matching enabled.

I've been waiting for a solution to this for over a year now and it does not seem to be included in TvOS 16 as I had hoped... I just bought a Google Chromecast 4K which has implemented this properly as one can force Chroma to e.g. YCbCR 4:2:0 10-bit or YCbCR 4:2:2 12-bit. Both working fine for me.

The dilemma is that Google Chromecast can't play Dolby Atmos and Apple TV 4K can't display 4K HDR movies with matching framerate etc. So, I'm thinking about giving Apple the time until the release of the next major version and if this continue to be an issue, I guess I'll give up Dolby Atmos and sell the Apple TV unfortunately as It's a great device, but has some bugs/issues related to content matching, chroma etc.

What is your model AV receiver? Is your Apple TV box connected to HDMI 2.0 or HDMI 2.1 ports, including the rest of the chain to the screen? Possibly not all ports on the AVR are created equal.

What is your model Apple TV 4K? The 2017 or 2021 model?

Does the same settings switch happen if the AV receiver is taken out of the equation?

Apple TV should keep its chroma setting if supported by the rest of the equipment, as it does for many users. This is the first report that I have read suggesting otherwise.

My AVR is a Pioneer VSX-933 and my Apple TV 4K 2021 is connected to the AVR through HDMI 2.0b using premium certified HDMI 2.1 cables. My AVR is then connected to a 2021 Samsung TV with HDMI 2.0b.

If I remove the AVR the content is sent in the correct format of 4:2:2 10-bit regardless if the content is 4:2:0 10-bit.

it becomes a challenge when SDR is default or content matching is activated as the Apple TV does not seem to care about what the chroma setting is set to.

Both Google Chromecast 4K and my PS5 can restrict to only use 4:2:0 10-bit or other combinations which are fine
