series 3 watch stuck white apple logo

Series 3 watch was working perfectly. Put it on charge and red exclamation point appears. Tried hard reset now white apple logo comes and goes? This problem seems to be common and I have read that Apple will replace the watch if you get in touch with the right person. Seems like the fair thing to do since it was one of THEIR updates that caused my watch to lock up. Any suggestions?
