can't type in word document on ipad

I downloaded Word on my ipad and opened a new document but I can't get the keyboard to come up to type on the document...

iPad mini, iOS 9

Do you have the free version of word or do you have a subscription?

Sometimes with Microsoft’s programs you can ‘read’ for free but to create content you must have a paid subscription. (Or there are limits as to how much you can do without paying)
