my Apple Watch 7 screen will not stay on. I went to setting and turned on the alway on mode. Yet it does not stay.

It's probably in Theater Mode.

Open the control panel of your watch by sliding your finger up from the bottom edge. You will find an icon of two masks in there. If they are highlighted, tap them to shut it off.
