Magic keyboard touch ID and Apple silicon

I have a 16" Mac Book pro 2019. It has Intel Silicon (i9) and also a working touch ID. Not an Apple silicon chip in sight.

I also have a 2020 iMac 21.5" with the same Intel silicon (i9) which does not work with the Apple Magic Keyboard with touch ID.

Both machines have the latest OS (Ventura 13.2). The 16" MBP shows 'Touch ID and Password' in system setting, the 21.5" iMac only shows Password. The iMac will shut down when the touch ID button is pressed but will not start up using the Touch ID button. Why? It seems that there are different versions of Ventura 13.2 for different machines.

It's actually simpler than that. A 2019 MacBook Pro has a Touch ID sensor, a 2020 iMac does not.
