After ejecting a drive, I wait until the drive's LED stops blinking, otherwise I like to wait at least 30 seconds if the drive has no LED.

Apple stopped providing a notification it is now safe to remove the physical device many years ago, I wish they still provided this notification because macOS sometimes will get tied up accessing the drive and it is not properly unmounted.
