AirTag makes noise when on microchipped dog

As well he/she should (unless they’re carrying one of YOUR devices on the walk).

It’s Apple’s privacy feature to alert your active/moving dog (and whomever else might be nearby) … that they have “on them” a device which could be used for surreptitious tracking.

An airtag will chirp when it’s moved AND one of it’s associated devices is not in-range.

(AirTags can’t determine their own location, but they DO contain an accelerometer to detect movement)

This is normal behavior.

It’s impact on a pet’s neurotic behavior - when the owner and their devices are absent - is unknown.

AirTags are not meant to track animals or people.

They will routinely make noise after they have been out of range of the iPhone registered to them.

I've been having the exact same issue with the AirTag I have in my backpack. I talked to Apple and they told me to replace the battery. So far so good. Do you think that might be your issue as well? Good luck!

I sure never experienced anything of the sort with my dogs tag / chip, but of cause different countries may use different chips

I have one that makes that noise on occasion.

It's on my keyring, which has a chip, and a battery.

To be fair, I don't think Apple recommends using the Airtag on pets. So, the fact that it's not optimized for that wouldn't seem nonsensical to me.
