Recents in finder on M2 air is empty

I am an older person and have managed to restart/add documents to spotlight privacy but my recents folder remains empty in finder. I can find it in word (for word docs, obv!) and it appears as a list when I look at recent items in the apple folder top left.....

How can I make it work from finder? In simple language please!

Go to Finder, then Preferences

Click on the Sidebar tab

Checkmark "Recents"

Recents should now show in the Sidebar in Finder

You may also need to alter the number of Recents that are displayed (it may inadvertently be set to zero)

Change the number of items listed in the Apple menu:

On your Mac, choose Apple menu > System Settings, then click Desktop & Dock in the sidebar. (You may need to scroll down.)

Go to Menu Bar on the right, click the pop-up menu next to “Recent documents, applications, and servers,” then choose a number.
