iCloud for Windows not fully initialized.

I'm trying to install iCloud for Windows. When I launch the app from the Microsoft app store, I get a message saying: "iCloud for Windows has not fully initialized. Please wait a monent and log in again." I have tried several times over the past few days without success. I have uninstalled and reinstalled and restarted my computer several times. Any ideas on how to get beyond this issue?

My hope is small but I wish that Apple will take decision to develop its own new latest version of iCloud as they did with version 7.x which was working smoothly. As almost all users are reporting it’s something around the MFA or 2FA which is not completely successful.

Guys I believe that some portion of root cause could be also related with the feature of ‘advanced data security’ introduced by Apple some months ago.

What I mean here is that when I ve started facing the issue with iCloud migration from 7.x to 14.x, in my case, my profile had the advanced data protection enabled and also the option of iCloud data kept not visible via webpage.

Question: guys, to all of you with my same issue, do you have also the advanced data protection feature enabled in your iOS settings?

thank u!

I’m not sophisticated enough to answer your question about security. I can tell you this. I am not allowed to access and change my files in iCloud when using my PC. I keep getting told I don’t have the right. “permission“. On top of that, I’ve granted every permission I can grant myself, and I still can’t change my own files while on PC. .

So yes, there is some kind of security feature barring me from changing my own files from a PC, but I have no idea what it is.

I wish Apple would do something about this because I’m ready to migrate to just about anything else.

I feel like I'm dealing with the next phase of this issue. I received a few failures to initialize, but was able to get past them. I've used the iCloud plugin in Outlook for many years. Today, I was setting up a new Windows 11 PC with Outlook365. I successfully downloaded the iCloud software, logged in, and completed the Outlook setup. From the iCloud app, it said everything was successfully installed in Outlook. I then opened Outlook and iCloud isn't anywhere to be seen. After spending a couple hours trying a variety of tricks, I finally gave up. I flipped back to my other laptop where iCloud has been working perfectly fine with Outlook. I logged out of iCloud and logged back in. Unfortunately now iCloud is no longer showing up in Outlook on my old laptop either. Is there a bug out there right now? I have also confirmed the iCloud Addin within Outlook is enabled.

Thank you for your work to find out whats going on. Just wanna tell you that for me it was enough to just uninstall 'icloud outlook component' without touching main icloud 14.x app (downgrading to 7.x and upgrading again wasn't necessary) Login and MFA worked like a charm after that and is still working after a few restarts of Windows. Looks like the outlook component could be the culprit here.

This must be a recent problem, as I noticed it in my laptop (old installation) and it also happened on my brand new PC installation.

The Apple support has not really helped, as they just asked to uninstall/delete various iCloud related files and I stopped this procedure when they asked me to unistall the Outlook. What would be the next step; to uninstall windows or my ERP?

I mainly used iCloud for Windows for the calendar and the solution for me was to move to a new Oulook calendar.

Unfortunately, I have to do some work for this transition, but I can't function without a calendar and at this moment there's no solution from Apple.

PS. I suspect that at some point they will work on this, find the conflict and solve the problem, but I'm sad because it will be too late to go back.

Hi Guys,

I have been using the latest update from a while now and my files and folders are syncing perfectly. I have 2 PC and 1 Laptop. All of them are on Windows 10 Pro. All my files are syncing on all my devices including my iPhone, iPad and all 3 windows machines. Try checking if the app is not being blocked by firewall or your Wi-Fi is set to private and not public. Maybe changing those settings could work. Even try closing all iCloud related processes from task manager and re-start iCloud Drive. That could help.

Solved--- for me at least.

I had this same problem, immediately after upgrading from Windows 10 Pro to Windows 11 Pro. Does not get to TFA, just spins and then gives the not initialized message.

Because this was right after the upgrade, I de-installed iCloud and tried it again. Same result.

I then de-installed it and thought I would see if iTunes was working. It was -- BUT it was logged into a different AppleID (I have three). So, I logged out of iTunes, logged back in with the same AppleID that I use for iCloud, and then downloaded the iCloud app from the MS store and ran it again. Success! Got the TFA and it installed as expected.
