I think you can buy an unlocked iPhone – never register it with a carrier – and use it in the same way that you would use an iPod Touch. I used the non-phone functions of my iPhone while I was waiting for a SIM card to arrive.

  • Last iPod Touch – discontinued in May 2022
  • Last iPod Nano and Shuffle – discontinued in July 2017
  • Last of any other type of iPod – discontinued in September 2014, or earlier
  • First iPod – came out in October 2001
