Same thing, bought mine iPhone 14 few months ago. I always have a mask on and I know I didn't drop it anywhere. There is a "silver spot" on the back on the side... I am kinda sad 😂😭

It is not possible to know unless we witnessed the paint process. No matter what the real reason might be, Apple does not cover cosmetic damage or flaws.
