Battery Drain While on Wireless Charger

I have an iPhone 13 Pro and a MagSafe Duo Charger. Both have worked flawlessly for years. The first day I was offered the update to iOS 16.5.1, my phone started a weird behavior. I set it on the charger overnight, but wake up to a dead phone battery. For two nights the update failed due to low battery. I then plugged the phone in and accepted the update, but the wireless charging is still failing. The phone chimes like it is charging, the software shows that it is on the charger, but the battery is completely dead in the morning. Does anybody have any idea what might be happening?

I just recently had the same problem. I verified that I had the latest iOS and that the charger was properly and firmly plugged in. Realizing that the transmitter coil has detection circuitry and that issues with those circuits could cause the charger to cycle between charging and then losing the signal and not charging. So I unplugged the charging station completely and waited for a sufficient time and the plugged it back in, and it fixed the problem. May not be a fix for everyone but it worked for me.

Hey there TechSupportMom1,

Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities. We'll be happy to help with wireless charging and your iPhone.

It sounds like this issue happens with a specific wireless charger that you've been using for some years. It is possible that the charger is not working anymore. Have you had a chance to check a different charger, or connected to your computer or power adapter to charge?

If your iPhone charges with another charger, you may need to look at replacing your wireless charger. If the iPhone won't charge with any charger, check your battery health: iPhone Battery and Performance

Take care.

Having the exact same issues! I took my phone to the Apple store this AM and they couldn't find anything wrong. So glad I'm not crazy and found this thread. Hopefully Apple will fix the issue in an update. My phone would charge for 10-15 seconds, then the charge would stop and battery would drain. So frustrating.... I'm trying unplugging my magnetic charger and will hope that works.....

I’m having same problem with iPhone 13 after updating 17. My wireless charger is mag safe and is 2 months old. My husband’s phone works fine. He didn’t do the update. I have some kind of problem with every update. This is ridiculous. What can be done. It charges fine with a cord. It loses charge overnight and there are not apps running I’ve done the hard reset several times and no luck.
