Hi all
I have a MacBook Pro M1 with a dead screen. How can I access the data on the laptop's disk drive? I'm hoping to be able to connect it with a MacStudio and pull off some important data before it disappears from my possession.
If I succeed in doing that, is there then a way to wipe all my data from the MacBook Pro's disk?
Any help and advice gratefully received!

Do you have an external monitor you could use by chance? To connect to the MBP? Or could you possibly use Remote Login if that was enabled on it? Just a couple of possible ideas.
You don’t need a Studio Display.
Just about any display will work, even a tv with an hdmi port.
You just need an adapter from usb-c to hdmi or vga, depending on the connection available on the display.
I don’t understand what you mean by “it’s enabled using the GUI”.
Once you attach an external display it should be recognized. There is no such a thing as enabling or disabling external displays, AFAIK.
See if you can connect via Target Disk Mode . Just proceed as if there was a working screen and then see if it shows up as an external drive on the Studio.

Remote access - no. But the screen is a possibility. I’ve a Studio display. How would I select that as the output?
I should also point out that I had to remove the laptop from my account for an abortive repair, so I can’t remotely wipe it. Really regret doing that now, but it’s done 🙄

Are you sure? I have an M2 MacBook Pro with an HDMI port. I connected it to a TV I have never associated with that Mac and it extended the display to that TV.

Of course, you’re right. Having never had to connect an external monitor before I was over-thinking it. Just plug it in - I used a Thunderbolt cable - and it works. Not what I was expecting but pleasantly surprised.
