Can’t add new Eve Motion to HomeKit

I’ve had HomeKit running successfully for the last year. I have several Eve products (including motion sensors designed for HomeKit) that are successfully working on Apple HomeKit.

I just purchased a new Eve Matter motion detector. Trying to install the device the installation does not “see” the custom name for my home and it tries to install to a default Apple Home, and not the name of my home. Note, I’m 100% running HomeKit devices, HomePod minis running 16.6 as Thread border routers. Everything has been working fine until I tried to add a Matter device instead of a HomeKit device. (Amazon was sold out of the HomeKit version).

How do I install the Eve Matter sensor to the Apple HomeKit named home? Eve tech support has not been able to assist.

thanks.

Sorry your nuke option didn’t work!!!

I spent a week troubleshooting trying to add a single Eve Matter motion detector with Eve and Apple.

Eve blamed Apple for the “bug”. Apple said there was nothing to see here….no bug….move along.

I eventually gave up and sent the motion detector back.

Adding the motion sensor was a nice to have, not an essential.

My lesson learned is that Matter and HomeKit still isn’t baked yet, and I’m going to wait longer before adding any new devices.

I'm using the Eero Pro 6E...In the FWIW Eve tech support also said the problem could be blamed on Eero....

Even with the new firmware, Eero allows other device manufacturers to connect to the Thread network using Eero’s API. However, there is no support from Apple for this (yet). I.e., there is no dynamic switching between Thread and Bluetooth when Thread fails.

This may change this year, but we are not sure.

Please turn off Thread on the Eero.

Hello Cisco@,

For issues adding a Matter accessory to the Home app, use the following related troubleshooting steps:

  1. Start by following: Add a smart home accessory to the Home app
  2. Make sure all devices and home hubs are up to date.
  3. Apply all firmware updates to the affected accessories. If the accessory cannot be added to the manufacturer's iOS app, then please contact the manufacturer for further steps.
  4. Make sure the iOS device being used to add the accessory is connected to a known good-working Wi-Fi network that the accessory supports. Many accessories only support 2.4 GHz bands.
  5. Make sure the home hub is connected to the same Wi-Fi network.
  6. Reset Network Settings on the iOS device, power cycle the Matter accessory, and all network hardware. Then test the issue again. Keep in mind, resetting all setting on iOS does remove all previously known network connections, VPNs, etc. See steps here: Return iPhone settings to their defaults
  7. You can also test resetting the accessory and any related bridges to factory settings. Note: This may require additional steps in the manufacturer's iOS app.

If the issue is still unresolved, then it would be best to contact Apple Support on a solution here: Get Support

They'd need to take it from here.

Take care.

Thanks for responding, but that's pretty much what Eve tech support had me do....For some reason during the installation when trying to add the device, there's HomeKit can't "see" the name of my home, and it's defaulting to Apple Home...but the name of the home is clearly in the HomeKit app and there's no mention of a 2nd home name.

I was hoping someone would know as this is the first time I've tried to add a Matter device to my 100% HomeKit home. Thanks.

Thanks for sharing Cisco@. I tried different iPhones, different wifi routers, different iCloud accounts, and different accessories, and was STILL getting “Add to Apple Home”. But your advice helped — I factory reset my Nanoleaf products and skipped the QR code entirely, instead manually entering the pairing code and finally got to add them back. The Matter accessories do not add though, QR code or otherwise.

After trying all of the above, this has to be a Home app problem relating to poor Matter integration — exactly what you suspected and experienced too.

I had (have) the same issue. But I went nuclear and tried to delete the whole home, reset Homekit and wifi configs etc. Bad idea - for me, at least, it turns out this isn't an Eve issue, but a homekit issue. I've tried to add Eve and Nanoleaf after the wipe and I'm still getting "Add to Apple Home" instead of "My Home". Interested to know if you have the same issue - if you add a non-Eve accessory, are you presented with the "Apple Home" default still?
