When I click on Finder, all documents seem to be there. I can view them alphabetically or by date last used. However, none of the documents are in any folders. How do I get my docs back into folders? I have a MacBook Air, Operating System 11.6.5 Big Sur.

Thank you for your response. Today I called Apple Support and received excellent guidance. Apparently my MacBook Air operating system rebooted. I have many documents held by iCloud. I was told that it takes a couple of days or more for iCloud to complete the document retransfer. As it happened, later today, the adjustments with iCloud were apparently complete. Once again, I have all my folders back on my laptop with the documents where they should be. Interestingly, I also learned that even though the process wasn't complete earlier, I could sign in to iCloud and see all my folders there all along. A good learning experience!

Can you think of anything you might have done recently that could have caused this?
Are you referring to the Documents folder that appears in the Finder sidebar, or to folders within that Documents folder?
Are you syncing your Desktop and Documents to iCloud, by any chance?
