Why Am I constantly asked to unlock my Apple ID

Every few days I see a popup window that says:

"Unlock Apple ID

A password reset request was sent from a device at the location shown below."

However, there is nothing "shown below", nor do I have a clue why my Apple ID is apparently "Locked".

So I have to go through the various steps to unlock it, then sign in. And even though the first time I signed in, I got the "Your Apple ID is being used to sign in to a new device" window. Fine, but then why does this same window pop up a couple hours later, on the same computer, with the same browser, when I am about to sign in again? I'm not a new device, nor new version of my browser, etc. So what's going on? Why do I keep having to jump through all these hoops, just to sign in to the Apple site, or my iCloud??? Why does my Apple ID keep on being locked?

I also have the same issue. Mine pops up 8 to 12 times when I first sign in, I’ve called tech-support and told them it’s been happening for years, now it’s getting worse and he advised me he can see over 121 phone calls including visits to Apple Stores for help since 2020 and they’ve done nothing to help me. But wipe out my device and sometimes create a new ID. I don’t know were to else to go for help.

That's so sad to hear, that you've been ignored and/or not helped over 100 times! Actually, it's pretty outrageous and pathetic, that Apple's "support" has sunk to so low a level. I still remember when many problems could be overcome just by using the onboard Apple "Help" Menu, or a call in would definitely help us get back to work. But today, the help menu is a joke, and far too many of the agents answering calls are unable to come up with actual solutions, some can barely grasp what the problem even is, a I've experienced some who just hang up, due to their lack of knowledge, and to avoid passing me up the chain, admitting their inability to handle the issue!

I can understand when a security question or extra verification might be required when signing in, if we've updated our OS, or the browser we're using, etc. But so many times, none of that applies, and we're required to jump through all the extra hoops, just to sign in, even though we are already signed in, to the cloud, etc.

And if sending a notification to the computer I'm on, verifies my identity any further than my signing in, I'd like to know how that fallacy got started! If I'm trying to sign in, on this device, then sending this device a notification, does nothing to guarantee the least bit more security. It's obviously some bug, a glitch, and not one they care to fix, apparently.

Happened again today, went round and round with the website's directions, which took me nowhere. Had to call Apple Support, and with the tech person, went round & round some more, until finally having to change my password, all just to be able to log in to this site! "Seamless integration" may have become a thing of the past, as there have been more & more holes in it, making using our devices about as frustrating as using a Windows computer, and that's not good.

After this most recent exasperating experience, and I finally get signed in, I now have forgotten what issue I came here to address!! Why won't Apple address this incredibly frustrating bug...
