Reorder hard drives in macOS Finder's sidebar?

I have several external drives attached to my Mac. When I look at them in the macOS Finder sidebar, they often mount in a certain order. Finder does allow me to drag them into a new order, but then sometimes they spontaneously reorder, and my preferred order never sticks.

(In case you're curious, I'd be thrilled if they just ordered alphabetically, but they don't.) So when I have numbered drives, they're frequently out of order.

Is there a way to fix the order of drives?
