MST support with MAC OS

to up to two fully-hardware accelerated displays on one port on a Mac, the Port, the cable, and the first device Dock or Display must be genuine ThunderBolt.

USB-C has only half the data conductors and therefore less than half the bandwidth, and two of today's displays can not be supported on USB.

The solution using the j5 Dock creates a "fake" display in software, and uses (or emulates) DisplayLink Software to support it. That solution can not provide full-motion Video, and using a mouse on that display may make you feel queasy.

Reportedly, Macs can use either 1 or 2 external displays, depending on the model. But, there is one official workaround for this that I use...

Getting Multiple External Displays:

The J5 USB-C Dual HDMI Docking Station allows for more than two extra monitors. How so? Well, plug in a display projector the Mac using the USB-C Digital AV Multiport Adapter and then plug the J5 hub with 2 HDMI displays (one 4K), and then you'll have 3 external screens. It all mirrors and extends.
