Unable to connect to Starbucks or any other public wifi

I've been having issues with Starbucks connection on my Mac Pro. The login page wouldn't show up at all.

I saw a previous thread that mentioned a bunch of workarounds, and none worked for me.

Some of the workarounds were:

1. Connect to the Starbucks network on your wifi network

2. open web browser (chrome)

3. in the URL bar type: purple.com

4. you should be presented with the Starbucks log in screen.

or

  1. Remove/Forguet network
  2. Restart computer
  3. Connect again

Etc...

My case was a little different, so I thought I should post it here if anyone has the same issue.

Check the network IPv4 configuration settings!

If it is manual (my case), change it to 'Using DHCP'.

  • System Settings > Wifi
  • Select 'details' on the network that is connected (in my case was Starbucks)
  • Then TCP/IP > Configure IPv4 > change to 'Using DHCP'

As soon as I did this the login window popped up!

use:

1.1.1.1 and press return.

if you get a login page, you log in.

if you get the CloudFlare** splash page, you ARE connected to the internet, and if you had a valid DNS looker-upper entered, it would all be working.

**CloudFlare is NOT part of the solution here, they just have THE easiest-to-remember all-numeric IP address, so no DNS lookup required.
